Flooring on a slab foundation

Tile and flooring in McKinney almost always means working over a concrete slab, and that shapes every choice. Slabs are rarely perfectly flat, they can carry hairline cracks from seasonal movement in the clay soil, and anything glued or set on them has to allow for that. We check the slab for flatness and cracks, level the low spots, use crack isolation membrane under tile where it is needed, and leave expansion gaps at the walls so floors do not buckle. Call (972) 439-9694 for an estimate, backed by our one-year written workmanship guarantee.

Across Collin County, the most common flooring projects we see are carpet coming out of living rooms and bedrooms in favor of wood-look porcelain tile or luxury vinyl plank, cracked builder tile replaced in kitchens and entries, and travertine and marble entry floors repaired or regrouted. Tile stays cooler underfoot in a Texas summer, which is part of why it is so popular here.

We install and repair hardwood, laminate, vinyl, tile and carpet, along with baseboard and quarter round, stair treads and thresholds.

What we install

Flooring we work with

01

Porcelain and ceramic tile

Including wood-look plank tile in herringbone or straight lay, large-format tile and patterned tile for baths and laundry rooms.

02

Natural stone

Travertine, marble and slate laid, repaired, regrouted and sealed, including inlays and borders in entries.

03

Luxury vinyl plank

Waterproof and quick to install, a common replacement for carpet in bedrooms and living areas.

04

Hardwood and laminate

Engineered hardwood and laminate floated or glued over the slab with the right moisture barrier.

05

Carpet replacement

Old carpet removed and replaced, or swapped for hard flooring room by room.

06

Repairs

Cracked tiles replaced, grout cleaned out and regrouted, and loose planks reset.

Why tile cracks on a slab

Tile cracks in a line across a room almost always follow a crack in the slab underneath. Seasonal movement in the clay can open those slab cracks a little, and rigid tile set directly over them breaks along the same line. Before setting tile we look for existing slab cracks and bridge them with a crack isolation membrane, which lets the slab move slightly without taking the tile with it. We also flatten humps and dips so large-format and plank tile do not end up with raised edges.

Frequently asked questions

Why does tile crack on my slab floor?
Tile cracks usually follow a crack in the slab underneath. A crack isolation membrane under new tile helps prevent that.
Can you lay wood-look tile in a herringbone pattern?
Yes. Herringbone and other patterns take more cutting and time, and we plan the layout before starting.
Is vinyl plank a good choice in Texas?
It is a popular choice here because it is waterproof, comfortable underfoot and installs quickly over a prepared slab.
Can you repair travertine or marble?
Yes. We replace cracked stone, regrout and seal travertine and marble floors.
Do you remove the old flooring?
Yes. Removal and disposal of old carpet, tile or wood can be part of the estimate.
Can you replace a few cracked tiles?
Often, yes, if matching tile is available. Keeping spare tiles from the original install helps.
Do you install new baseboard with the floor?
Yes. We can reinstall or replace baseboard and add quarter round where needed.
Is flooring work covered by your guarantee?
Yes. Our workmanship is guaranteed in writing for one year from the invoice date. If a defect in our work appears in that time, we repair it free of charge under the terms of your agreement.
